Pupil Protect vs CPOMS

CPOMS StudentSafe is a well-established system for recording safeguarding concerns in schools. Both let any member of staff log a concern, build a chronology for each pupil and alert your safeguarding team.

The main differences are in how each record is put together, what’s included in the price, and how much of each product’s detail is published.

When CPOMS may suit you better

No system is right for every school. These are fair reasons to choose CPOMS.

  • You want a long-established supplier with a large community of schools already using it.
  • You need your supplier to hold ISO 27001 certification today.
  • You already use other CPOMS products, such as VisitorSafe or Insight, and want one supplier for all of them.

Moving from CPOMS

We bring your records across and your DSL checks them before anything goes live.

How switching works

Can we get our records out of CPOMS?

Yes. CPOMS says schools can export through its reports at any time, and that at the end of a contract it provides a password-protected JSON export at no extra cost. Coming soon: importing from that export into Pupil Protect.

What comes across?

Coming soon: concerns and actions, chronologies with their original dates, documents and categories. Until then, keep CPOMS read-only for past records. Pupils joining from another Pupil Protect school bring their record with them today.

When should we give notice?

CPOMS's G-Cloud terms give 30 days' notice to cancel. Check your own contract, as it may differ. You can keep CPOMS read-only until it ends.

Our categories are set up the way we like them. Do we lose them?

No. You start with 17 recommended categories, and can rename, recolour, restrict, reorder, merge or add your own to match the ones you use in CPOMS.
