Pupil Protect vs MyConcern
Tes MyConcern is a safeguarding case management system used by schools and trusts. Both let staff log concerns, keep a chronology for each pupil and share information with other agencies.
The main differences are in what’s included in the core product, how much is published about hosting and pricing, and the AI help in Pupil Protect.

Side by side
| What you need | Pupil Protect | MyConcern |
|---|---|---|
| Logging a concern | Any adult in school, in a couple of minutes. "Help me write this" turns rough notes into a clearer draft to use or dismiss, and keeps the child's words in quotation marks exactly as written. Pupils, parents and anyone else can report through the school's link or QR code, named or anonymously. | Staff log concerns, and anonymous reporting is offered for the wider community. |
| The chronology | Every concern, action, contact, meeting and document, in order. A family timeline puts brothers' and sisters' chronologies side by side. | Automated chronologies. |
| Body maps | Numbered markers on a body map. Children's injuries are never photographed. | Not stated on Tes's own pages. |
| Sharing with other agencies | With Connect, you choose what to share with verified contacts in social care, health and the police, such as outcomes, minutes or the full chronology, until a date you set. Every change is logged. Coming soon: agencies signing in to see what you share. | Secure sharing with external agencies. |
| Pattern alerts | Eight rules check every 15 minutes, such as 3 concerns in 30 days, siblings with recent concerns, a cluster in one form, or an urgent concern nobody has opened after 2 hours. Each is a plain count your school can adjust, so anyone can see why a pupil was flagged. | Trends and patterns spotted early. Automatic flags aren't described publicly. |
| Pupils moving school | When a pupil joins from another Pupil Protect school, they're matched by UPN. The old school sends the full chronology or key events, and it goes straight into the new chronology. Requests are overdue after 5 school days, with a reminder each day after. | Easy and secure data transfer, so records follow pupils through their education. |
| Concerns about staff | In Staff, alongside the single central record and safer recruitment. | Allegations, low-level concerns and self-referrals, included in Tes MyConcern. |
| Audit trail | Every view, change, export, print and sign-in, searchable in Admin. Entries are never changed or deleted. Anyone opening 20 or more records in 10 minutes alerts admins, and exports or prints between 20:00 and 06:00 are flagged. | Described as a "comprehensive, tamper-proof audit trail" for staff safeguarding records. |
| MIS | Arbor, Bromcom, SIMS, iSAMS, ScholarPack, Facility CMIS, Double First Engage, RM Integris, Progresso, Pupil Asset, SchoolBase, PASS and SchoolPod. Synced four times a school day and overnight. | Through Wonde. Arbor, SIMS and Bromcom are named. |
| AI | Writing help, suggested next steps, category suggestions and answers from your own policies. It runs on a model your school controls, inside Pupil Protect or on your own server, so pupil information never goes to an outside AI service. Off until your school switches it on, and only for roles you allow. A person checks everything. | Not stated publicly. |
| Trust reporting | Insight, counts only, included for trusts. | Tes Clarity, a separate product. |
| Training | Recorded videos and a live session for your DSL team are included. On-site training is available for a fee. | Tes Safeguarding Training, a separate product with over 80 online courses. |
| Where data is kept | UK data centres, including backups. AI runs inside Pupil Protect or on your school's own server, never on an outside AI service. | Not stated publicly. |
| Certification | None yet. We're working towards certification. | Not stated publicly. |
| Price | Published on our pricing page. One price a year per school, based on roll, excluding VAT. No set-up fees. Coming soon: importing your records from your old system, included in the price. | Not published. Book a consultation for a price. |
| Leaving | Print any pupil's chronology or concern, and download pupils, cases and reports as CSV, at any time at no extra cost. Coming soon: one export of every record and document. | Not stated publicly. |
“Not stated publicly” means we couldn’t find it on MyConcern’s website. It may still be available, so ask them. If anything here is wrong or out of date, email sales@pupilprotect.co.uk and we’ll correct it.
When MyConcern may suit you better
No system is right for every school. These are fair reasons to choose MyConcern.
- You already use other Tes products, such as Provision Map or Class Charts, and want one supplier.
- You want a large library of online safeguarding training courses from the same supplier.
- You want concerns about staff included in the core product, rather than added on.
Moving from MyConcern
We bring your records across and your DSL checks them before anything goes live.
Can we get our records out of MyConcern?
Tes doesn't publish its export terms, so ask your account manager what format your export comes in and whether there's a charge. Coming soon: importing from a MyConcern export.
What comes across?
Coming soon: concerns and actions, chronologies with their original dates, documents and categories. Until then, keep MyConcern read-only for past records. Pupils joining from another Pupil Protect school bring their record with them today.
We moved to MyConcern from Safeguard My School. Does that matter?
No. Coming soon: importing from your current MyConcern records, including anything brought across from Safeguard My School.
When should we give notice?
Check your contract's notice period early. You can keep MyConcern read-only until it ends.
